Penis Enlargement and Penis Filler FAQ

Twenty questions patients ask before booking penis filler, answered plainly.

How safe is this procedure?

The procedure is safe. Complications are rare and usually minor, including temporary swelling and mild bruising. For more detail see risks and complications.

Worldwide, the number of facial aesthetic procedures performed using reversible dermal fillers exceeds 5 million each year. Complications are exceedingly rare when a reversible dermal filler is injected by an experienced doctor. The number of procedures using reversible penis filler to enlarge the penis is approximately 20,000 per year worldwide. This is the safest medical approach available to thicken the penis.

How easy is the procedure?

You first have a consultation with the doctor, and time to consider your decision. On treatment day the doctor gives you numbing cream to apply to the penis, and after 30 minutes local anesthetic is injected to minimize any discomfort. You then lie back and the doctor injects the filler into a layer within the penis shaft, instantly thickening the penis.

You could go straight back to work if you take it easy, for example in an office. Avoid strenuous manual labour or heavy lifting (public gyms) for one week, or as instructed by your doctor. You are unlikely to experience pain during the procedure or the recovery. It is possible to complete the procedure with only one needle incision through the use of a cannula. See the procedure video.

How much more girth will I gain?

The amount of girth gained depends on the length of the penis and the amount of filler injected. Your doctor may recommend an initial treatment of 10 ml of filler for an estimated 1 to 2 cm increase in circumference, depending on penis length and other factors such as skin thickness and elasticity. A shorter penis will require less filler, and therefore less cost; a longer penis will require more.

Individual results vary from patient to patient and cannot be accurately predicted. Estimate the amount of filler you need.

An increase of 2 to 3 cm is roughly a 20 to 30% increase in the thickness of the average penis. This is a substantial gain and will require some adjustment before any additional increase is contemplated. We strongly recommend testing your new girth with any long-term partner before opting for more. Further injections can be provided at a follow-up appointment, within medically acceptable limits.

HA is one of the most hygroscopic molecules known in nature, meaning it absorbs water from the surrounding tissue. The safest and most effective approach is to add girth cumulatively, in manageable steps, rather than all in one go. See before and after for typical results.

Does the girth procedure require me to visit a hospital?

No. This is a non-invasive approach using established techniques from aesthetic medicine. The procedure is completed in less than 30 minutes with topical anesthetic cream. You are awake while the doctor injects the reversible dermal filler under the skin around the shaft. You can leave directly afterwards and walk or drive home. No stitches; only tiny injection points which close on their own in seconds.

Can I drive home after the procedure?

Yes. You will not be sedated and you are unlikely to be in discomfort.

Are there any stitches required?

No stitches are required. Your doctor may use surgical glue to seal the small incision made to insert the cannula.

How soon after the girth enhancement can I have sex?

Not for fourteen days following the procedure. This ensures all injection points are completely healed, reducing any chance of infection. During the first 3 to 5 days the filler is malleable and may migrate if you have sex too early.

Will my penis be normal after girth enhancement?

Yes. The penis will function normally in terms of erection and urination. The angle of erection may be lower due to the increased weight, and the penis may hang slightly lower when soft (less retraction). It will have more girth when soft and when hard.

Is it true that the results will be instant?

Yes. Your penis will be instantly thicker following the treatment. Early swelling contributes to the first appearance; the settled result is assessed at your follow-up.

Will the filler reabsorb after the girth enhancement?

Yes, slowly. Most reversible dermal fillers have a half-life (50% gone) of 12 to 24 months following the procedure. Eventually all of the filler is passed out of the body. You may need approximately half the original amount again in a repeat treatment, usually in 12 to 24 months, to maintain your extra girth. Results vary.

A reversible filler can also be dissolved instantly with an enzyme. This is an important safety aspect and is sometimes requested if the extra girth is causing your partner difficulty during sex; in our experience partner dissatisfaction is rare, with the vast majority of patients reporting improved sexual relations.

Very rarely, filler can be reabsorbed in a matter of months, particularly if there is an immune response. This is not the expected outcome, but it is possible.

How soon will I need a repeat visit?

Depending on the rate of reabsorption and the product used, a repeat will be required within 12 to 24 months. The volume required will be lower than the initial procedure because of residual filler.

Is there any limit to how much penis filler I can have?

Packages range from 10 ml to 20 ml. Additional filler can be added, if desired, after 2 weeks. This is the safest approach. More is possible, but cumulatively, for the best result and highest safety. Ultimately the limit is determined by the doctor.

Is it abnormal to want a bigger penis?

No. You fit squarely within the normal range of men; most men would enjoy a larger penis. Opting to increase penis girth is arguably more normal than investing significant time in body-building with steroids and supplements, spending excessively on ego luxuries such as a sports car, or going through life unsatisfied with an important aspect of your body when there is a relatively easy solution.

I have a really short penis. Will Androfill do anything for penis length?

For erect length, no. For flaccid length, yes: the weight of the filler can cause it to hang slightly lower. As with lengthening surgery, there is no increased length in the erect state.

For heterosexual couples there is evidence that most women prefer girth over length. In a University of Texas study, 90% of partners preferred a wider penis (study). A UCLA SPAN Laboratory study, as reported by LiveScience, found women prefer larger girth for casual sex; it has not been published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Why go non-surgical rather than surgery?

Penile surgery is a higher-risk and largely obsolete approach with inferior results. For penis thickness, surgery is no longer necessary. Reversible penis fillers offer: treatment in minutes rather than hours; short, simple recovery; minimal to no pain; no surgical cutting or scarring; local anesthesia only; substantial, long-lasting gains; lower cost than surgery, and lower maintenance cost than fat transfer (fat absorbs and needs repeat surgery); a high rate of patient satisfaction; and repeatable, cumulative enlargement. See surgery vs non-surgical.

Isn't there something permanent I can inject?

Permanent substances, usually a form of plastic or polymer, can be injected into the penis, but this is high risk and cannot be reversed. See the penis fillers page for detail.

What is a normal size? Should I consider girth enhancement?

Many men choose girth enhancement purely for self-confidence and may not have a small penis at all; the majority of our patients are average. For those in long-term relationships, consider your partner's preference: incompatibility in size can cause dissatisfaction, and it may be inadvisable to proceed if your partner prefers a thinner penis. See men and penis size.

What can I do if I don't like the result?

If a reversible filler was used you can have it dissolved. You can return to your normal size either by waiting for the filler to dissolve naturally or by injecting an enzyme to dissolve it instantly. You would be out of pocket for the initial procedure, but unlike surgery you would not be stuck with a permanent result you or your partner are unhappy with. Dissolving is at the doctor's discretion and may be chargeable.

How long will the treatment take?

The procedure itself takes less than 30 minutes as an outpatient. On treatment day allow 2 to 3 hours for preparation and for topical and local anesthetic to take effect. You can walk or drive home straight away.

What are your payment methods?

We accept all major credit cards. Prices are in Canadian dollars; see the price list.
